I’ve Caught the Hobby Bug

I don’t know if it’s just the season of life I am in now that I have two kids in school full time and only one at home during the day or the fact that maybe I have spent too much time scrolling and scrolling and scrolling on Pinterest, seriously does it ever stop scrolling? But either way, I have caught the hobby bug.

It started when I got a new camera almost two years ago. I wanted to learn how to take some decent pictures of my boys and have something capable to capture sports shots. So I got a new camera. I knew absolutely nothing about taking pictures or where to even start. For awhile I got really into it and had fun playing around with it and trying to figure it out.

My only problem is that my boys hate having their pictures taken. Seriously you’d think I was torturing them! It’s a miracle if I happen to get a decent picture of all three of them together. And if you do get to see one of those pictures, just know that the 400 shots before that are candidates for Awkward Family Photos.

Seriously what is even going on here!?

So anyway, the photography has been fun, most of the time, and I do want to keep up with that, but now I have gotten my hands on a few more hobbies as well. I recently saw someone post this book on Instagram, Hand Lettering 101: An Introduction to the Art of Creative Lettering and how they loved it and were having so much fun learning to hand letter.

And I thought, “well darn, I can do that, I need that book.” So I asked for it for Christmas and started practicing on my own before it arrived. I love practicing on my chalkboards and now think I need a board for every wall in my house… No? Not a good idea?

(I also LOVE these colored Chalk Markers for Chalkboard by VersaChalk my husband got me for Christmas. He ordered them off Amazon. Check them out! I love adding a little pop of color to my signs. It’s so fun!)

Anyway, I have already learned a ton from this book and love practicing any chance I get. Only problem is now I also recently got a Cricut Explore Air to feed this Hobby Bug. Can anyone say crazy label lady? Yeah, now not only do I have chalkboards all over my house but everything is also getting a fancy label. At this point my Cricut has mostly been used as an expensive label maker, but I have also made a few signs and can’t wait to really see what it can do.

Oh and did I mention that I was also super excited about this Blog a few months ago and had all these dreams and plans of blogging regularly? Another hobby taking time away from another hobby. I guess the good thing is if I am strategic, I can combine all these hobbies together. Write something pretty, use my Cricut to make it into a sign, take a nice picture of it with my camera, then blog about it. I could be on to something here.

So I added a page to my blog. Projects, coming soon. Consider this my warning.

Anyway in the mean time, if you haven’t heard from me in awhile don’t worry too much its probably because my friend just texted me and said she thinks we need to go into business together buying old furniture and refinishing it to make it pretty again.

Of course! I think I need to do that too!

There is a slight chance this might get out of control… somebody please send help!

And bring some white spray paint too, I’m all out.

  1. Hi there! Love your projects. I have a silhouette not cricut. But I’d like to make labels like yours. What font did you use for the pantry labels??
