An Awkward Hug: Our Story

It was a banquet type dinning hall packed with 600+ high school kids, their fearless leaders, and camp staff members. The music was concert-like blasting, the program directors were pumping up the crowd, and those high schoolers were jumping out of their seats waiting for dinner to be served. If you have never been to a Young Life summer camp, you are missing out, but that is another story for another time. The pre dinner chaos was in full swing when for a split second, through the crowd, I made eye contact with the camp camera guy at the opposite […]

Back to School

Dear Back-to-School Day, This year you snuck up on me quicker than I wanted but also went mostly smoother than I anticipated. Why is it that once school starts our kids seem to grow up faster and the time seems to fly by quicker? Anybody else or is that just me? Anyway, this year I had two heading to all day elementary school. It will be nice to have them both on the same schedule for a year as opposed to last year when Lincoln was in preschool and I felt like a taxi cab driver more than a mom […]

Meet Keaton

Keaton is 8 years old and counting down the days until he can drive. Slow down kid! He wants so badly to be able to go places and do things on his own. I love his confidence, but am dreading the fact that he is already wanting to fly the nest. He is all about sports, especially football. He started playing tackle football when he was five. But it wasn’t until a few games into his first season that he actually grew any interest in handling the football. “I just want to tackle people mom.” Now three seasons in and […]

Meet Lincoln

Mr. Lincoln is 6 years old. He is our fire and ice boy and he has been that way since birth. You get all or nothing with this guy and that is one of the things I love most about him. He doesn’t do anything half way, once he commits (and that definitely has to be his decision to commit mind you, don’t even make me talk about potty training this kid) then there is no backing down. He loves hard and battles hard but thankfully he also has the sweetest most tender heart. This kid feels hard, and even […]

Meet McCoy

McCoy boy, as we frequently call him, is 4 years old. I understand now why the baby of the family always sort of stays the “baby” of the family. He gets the special treatment this one. I mean he still begs to be held and carried around. By the time his brothers were this age a new little brother had come along to kick him out of the carrying stage over two years ago! But he is my last so carry him I will until my back gives out. Its what the babies get right? McCoy is tough but gentle, […]
