Back to School Breakfast Burritos

Ok so really breakfast burritos are good ANYTIME, am I right?! But they are especially good for that first week of back to school. When that alarm goes off before the sun is even up, I am going to be happy that I have a yummy, protein packed, quick breakfast ready for my boys on their first day back. And the whole first week for that matter! It’s my back to school tradition, I always make up a ton of these burritos and pop them in the freezer for quick breakfasts to help us get back into our routine. It’s […]

My Biggest Competition Yet

Hi, my name is Deena and I am competitive. It’s just a little problem. Not to the point of obnoxious screaming matches or fist fights over a bad call type competitive. But the type of competitive that losing a family cornhole tournament makes me want to keep playing and playing and playing until I win. Or simply not playing a game anymore because I am not good at it. Why play if I don’t have a chance to win? Just for the fun of it? HA, that’s lame! I am pretty good at covering it up with a silly joke […]

Living in my Best Life

“Mom, Lincoln said he wants to go on a date with you!” I turned and looked at my 5 (almost 6) year old son and a bashful little smile spread across his face. “You want to go on a date with mom huh? Let’s do it buddy!” He then ran up and gave me a huge hug. (Okay pause here for just one second. How stinkin’ cute is it that my two boys were having a giddy little conversation about taking their mom on a date? Oh my mama heart just about burst! Sorry I had to brag for just […]

Pep Talk

Pep talks are usually my husband’s thing. He is great at encouraging and building up our boys before and during games. I am usually more concerned that they have the right socks and if they remembered their belt, oh and did someone grab that helmet? But right now I am talking about a different type of pep talk, and it is directed at myself. Last week a friend of mine sent me a message saying she had quit her job and was officially starting her journey as a stay at home mom. She knew I was a stay at home […]

New Year Goal: 2018

So I have this theory for why every year seems to go by quicker and quicker. With every year that passes our total years lived increases making each individual year a smaller and smaller percentage of our lives, therefore making it seem shorter. Make sense? For example, when we are ten years old a single year is 10% of our lives, but for a 90 year old, 1 year is only 1.1% of their life. So in a way we can say the years are in fact getting shorter, if my math is correct. Don’t burst my bubble here, It […]

I was the Best Parent Ever!… Before I had Kids.

Before I had any children I thought I knew pretty much everything about having kids. I would look at other people raising children and mentally judge them all the time. I would think things like: “How many times are they going to give in to that whining kid?” “Wow, that parent has no control.” “Seriously, my kid will never act like that!” I was sure I was so good at parenting. So much better than these parents I would see “giving in” to their children. I mean what did they know that I didn’t? It really couldn’t be that difficult? […]

Last night was CRAZY: Trust me, you can’t make this stuff up!

Last night was flat out ridiculous! It was crazy and I almost didn’t write about it. But now here I am the morning after and more in the mood to laugh about it so I figured I have to share. It all started when my husband jumped up shouting, “what the..!” We had just put the boys to bed about half an hour earlier. I was working on my laptop on the couch and Jason, my husband, was sitting on the ground watching football. I am not sure why he was sitting on the ground, but that is not the […]

All About the P-Word

Raising boys has been pretty great so far. They are busy, loud, snuggly, messy, stinky, risk-taking, fort-building, make you want to pull your hair out then melt your heart, tiny humans. I love them! They are fun and make me laugh. But there is also one other thing you should know about when raising all boys. It’s ALL about the P-word… Yep, you guessed it. Penis. What is it with little boys and their penises? Moms of boys please tell me I am not alone here. They are always “adjusting” it, messing with it, tugging on it, trying to hit […]

A Reason To Conquer My Fears

For me, October always brings with it the reminder of loss. 22 years ago on October 1, I lost my Dad. I was only 10. For reasons I may never understand and questions that will never get answered, I am forced to settle… Suicide. Suicide is what took my Dad. It was a choice he made for himself, but one I wish he knew was going to affect way more than just himself. I don’t like to talk about it, but who does? Death and loss are painful no matter how many years keep passing by. And the fact of […]

Being a Sports Mom: Why it is Better than I Imagined

This weekend my oldest son, Keaton, finished another season of tackle football. He has now played three seasons of football, two seasons of baseball and one season of basketball so far. He is 7. My middle son, Lincoln, has also played one season of baseball. He is 5. And with one more boy still putting in his time in the stands being a super fan, McCoy who is 3, we are clearly just getting started. I am still just testing out the waters of being a sports mom. I am loving it! But not in the exact ways I thought […]
